Project Terrarium 2014 -Day 6 & 7-

Okay, it's been a week and I'm still working (it will probably take me a few more days). I have started the most complicated part and I'm doing good :) So what's so special about it? Well, I'm creating a paper decoration.Yes, it's going to be made of paper, cellulose wadding to be more precise. If you don't know what it is, here's a picture:
Ok, minął tydzień, a ja nadal pracuję (potrwa to najprawdopodobniej jeszcze kilka dni). Zaczęłam najbardziej skomplikowaną część i idzie mi całkiem nieźle :) Więc co jest w tym takiego specjalnego? No cóż, robię papierową ściankę. Tak, będzie zrobiona z papieru, a konkretniej z ligniny. Jeśli nie wiesz co to takiego, masz tu zdjęcie:

You can also use kitchen paper towels, if you prefer.

Możesz też użyć papierowych ręczniczków kuchennych.

Okaaayyy, but how do you imagine making anything with this? ***It's magic*** :D All right, all right, it's magic AND some abilities :) First of all, you need a wood glue. Remember, it has to be water soluble and mustn't be toxic. My wood glue is called Wikol, and I think it's available only in Poland. Now that you have your wadding and glue, you will also need some dye to give your mixture some colour. I chose dark brown. And here's what you have to do: you pour some glue into a jar or some other container, pour some water (around 1:3 ratio), and add a few drops of your dye (you decide how strong the colour you want to get). Then mix everything, and this should give you a mixture a little thicker than water.
Okeeejjj, ale jak sobie wyobrażasz zrobić cokolwiek z tego? ***Magia*** :D Dobra, dobra, magia I trochę umiejętności :) Po pierwsze, będziesz potrzebować kleju do drewna Wikol oraz pigmentu. Ja wybrałam pigment w kolorze ciemnym brązowym. A oto co należy zrobić: wlewasz trochę kleju do słoika lub innego pojemnika, dolewasz wody (w stosunku ok. 1:3) i dodajesz kilka kropli pigmentu (ty decydujesz jak intensywny kolor chcesz uzyskać). Mieszasz wszystko i powinna wyjść mikstura odrobinę gęstsza od wody.

And this is where magic begins :) You take a piece of cellulose wadding, put it on your fitting foam/styrofoam skeleton, and touch it with a brush with a bit of your mixture. Just like this:
I tu się zaczyna magia :) Bierzesz kawałek ligniny, kładziesz na piankowy/styropianowy szkielet i dotykasz pędzlem namoczonym w miksturze. O tak:

Remember, it's paper you're working with, so don't let the brush be too wet or it will tear. Just a bit of solution will be okay. After a few attempts you will know how much is too much. Push the wadding piece with your brush from all angles. If your paper tears a bit, there's no need to worry! Just take another small piece and patch it up.
Pmaiętaj, pracujesz na papierze, więc pędzel nie może być zbyt mokry. Wystarczy tylko trochę roztworu. Po kilku próbach zorientujesz się ile to jest za dużo. Podociskaj ligninę pędzlem ze wszystkich stron. Jeśli papier zacznie się drzeć, bez obaw! Weź mały kawałek i załataj.

This method is crazy! It's very time consuming and tiring, but the effects...oh, just have a look for yourself:
Ta metoda to jakieś szaleństwo! Pochłania dużo czasu i jest męcząca, ale efekty...zresztą, patrzcie sami:

The photos above show just the first layer. I'm going to have two layers of wadding, and one waterproof layer of the glue-dye-water mixture. But that's not the end! I don't want a dark brown desert terrarium. This is only the colour that's going to be underneath. I'm going to put sand colour paint using a dry brush technique, and then one more color to make everything look more natural. Below you can see what the terrariums look now. The first tank has one layer of wadding, and the second one two.
Zdjęcia powyżej przedstawiają tylko pierwszą warstwę. Mam zamiar zastosować dwie warstwy ligniny i na to jeszcze wodoodporną warstwę samej mikstury. Ale to nie wszystko! Nie chcę ciemnobrązowego terrarium pustynnego. To jest tyko kolor, który będzie pod spodem. Na to nałożę piaskową farbę za pomocą techniki suchego pędzla i jeszcze potem jeden jaśniejszy kolor, żeby uzyskać bardziej naturalny efekt. Poniżej widzicie jak terraria wyglądają w tej chwili. Pierwsze ma jedną warstwę ligniny, a drugie dwie.

One layer dries in about 30-40 hours.
Jednak warstwa schnie w 30-40 godzin.
