Awaiting spring

Yeah, I'm really waiting for spring now. This winter hasn't been too long. Up to January there was practically no winter. And then snow came, and after it severe frosts. Now the weather is much better, a bit spring-like.
I haven't visited my cacti for months. My mom blocked the basement with her plants and I had no access to mine. A few days ago I finally made my way to that sector and took some photos.
Tak, już naprawdę czekam na wiosnę. Ta zima nie była za długa. Do stycznia praktycznie nie było zimy. A potem przyszedł śnieg, a po nim ostre mrozy. W tej chwili pogoda jest znacznie lepsza, taka wiosenna. Nie odwiedzałam moich kaktusów od miesięcy. Mama zawaliła piwnicę swoimi roślinami i nie miałam dostępu do swoich. Kilka dni temu przedostałam się do mojej części i pstryknęłam parę fotek.

Geee, I've never seen any of my Epiphyllums blooming and look at that! It decided to bloom in the cellar, of course without me noticing it!
Kurza twarz, jeszcze nigdy nie widziałam, żeby któreś z moich Epiphyllum kwitło! A tu patrz! Postanowiło zakwitnąć w piwnicy kiedy akurat nie patrzyłam!

And here are those that are staying in my room. Those are always most troublesome as it's too cold for them in the cellar and too hot in my room.
A tu są te, które zostały na zimę w moim pokoju. Z nimi zawsze jest najwięcej kłopotu, bo w piwnicy im za zimno, a w pokoju za ciepło.

Among other news, my "grandchildren" have eaten one another :< There's only one fellow left.
Z innych wieści, moje "wnuczęta" się pozjadały :< Został tylko jeden.

Oh, and one more thing: I have finally managed to take two shots of my snake. That bastard only leaves his hiding place after the lights switch off, so this time I surprised him! :D
O, jeszcze jedno: udało mi się sfotografować mojego węża. Dziadostwo wyłazi dopiero po zgaszeniu światła, to tym razem zrobiłam mu niespodziankę! :D

Scorplings

When I was feeding my spiders today I found out that I have become a grandmother again ;D One of my Liocheles australasiae bore some babies :)
Podczas karmienia pająków odkryłam dziś, że znów zostałam babcią ;) Jedna z moich Liocheles australasiae urodziła kilka maluchów :)

This species is parthenogenetic, which means that all individuals are female and there's no need for male to get the female preganant. The kids will now spend a few weeks on their mother's back till they have their first molt. It seems there are 15 of them. I'm really happy-these are my first baby scorpions :)
Jest to gatunek partenogenetyczny co oznacza, że wszystkie osobniki są rodzaju żeńskiego i do zapłodnienia samicy nie potrzeba samca. Maluszki spędzą teraz na grzbiecie matki kilka tygodni aż do pierwszej wylinki. Wygląda na to, że jest ich 15. Bardzo się cieszę-to moje pierwsze skorpioniątka :)

Spider update

I guess it's high time I made an update on my spider collection. Well, I'll begin with my little problem-I mean this:
Chyba najwyższy czas zrobić update na temat mojej pajęczej hodowli. Zacznę może od małego problemu-czyli od tego:

I was trying to sell my Ephebopus murinus spiderlings, but without any success. One idiot bought them all from me on Allegro (Polish equivalent of Ebay) and he didn't pay. I was waiting for the payment for long enough that I'm now stuck with them for the whole winter. It seems that it's too late for selling them this year as it's gotten pretty cold outside. But it looks like they are happy where they are, just look at those burrows :)
Próbowałam sprzedać moje maluchy Ephebopus murinus, ale bez powodzenia. Jakiś idiota kupił je wszystkie ode mnie na Allegro i nie zapłacił. Czekałam na wpłatę tak długo, że na dworze zrobiło się za chłodno na wysyłkę. Wygląda na to, że będą musiały u mnie spędzić całą zimę. Ale chyba jest im u mnie dobrze, takie ładne norki sobie porobiły :)

Cyriocosmus ritae, C. leetzi, C elegans, Hapalopus triseriatus and Pseudohapalopus 'blue' have been given new homes. I hope they like them as much as I do.

I'm very proud of my Heteropoda davidbowie. Not so long ago they were so small that they were able to get out through the vent holes (that's why I had to cover them in half) and now they look like a barrel :D One of them is a little lighter...
Jestem bardzo dumna z moich Heteropoda davidbowie. Jeszcze niedawno przechodziły przez dziurki od wentylacji (dlatego musiałam zakleić je do połowy), a teraz już takie bąble się z nich zrobiły :D Jeden jest trochę jaśniejszy...

With those dark legs they remind me a little bit of Idiothele mira.

One of my Paraphysa parvula has molted to a female and it knocks and knocks every night.

Looks like the other one will be a male. At least I hope so ;)

Honestly, I've had spiders for a few years and I still can't tell a juvenile male from a juvenile female apart. I know how an adult male looks like and that's it :(

Szczerze, mimo, że hoduję pająki od kilku lat, to nadal nie potrafię odróżnić niedorosłej samicy od niedorosłego samca. Wiem tylko jak wygląda dorosły samiec i to tyle :(

Euathlus pulcherrimaklaasi are said to be a couple, too. We'll see.

My male Ephebopus murinus looks horrible! He refuses to eat (when he recently ate after 2 months I was on cloud nine). He only thinks about the female.
Samiec-tatuś Ephebopus murinus wygląda okropnie! Nic nie chce jeść (jak ostatnio zjadł po 2 miesiącach to skakałam ze szczęścia). Tylko mu amory w głowie! (karapksie ;p )

The female at the same time aets for both of them and has so much energy that she has recently built a two-storey flat where the groundfloor is covered with elaborate carpet.
Samica natomiast lubi sobie pojeść za dwoje i ma dużo energii do pracy. Ostatnio zbudowała sobie dwupoziomowe mieszkanie, gdzie parter pokryty jest perskim dywanem :)

Homoeomma 'blue' still doesn't look so blue.

And here's a guy (even two guys) who will be VERY blue. Who will guess what it is? ;D It's going to be rather one of those miniture tarantulas. 
A tu mam cudeńko (a nawet dwa), które będzie BARDZO blue. Kto zgadnie co to? ;D Podpowiem, że pajączek należy do tych bardziej miniaturowych.

And if we're talking about blue, just look at those legs :D
A skoro już mowa o niebieskościach to spójrzcie na te nogi :D

Scorpions

Taking care of tarantulas and true spiders, I was tempted by scorpions for a while. However, knowing how dangerous they tend to be (quite a lot of them are more venomous that the most venomous tarantulas) I had tried not to get interested in them. But dwarf scorpions totally won my heart! Those are less dangerous than the least venomous tarantulas. Another advantage is that they are creatures which live in groups. which gives an occasion to observe other types of behaviour in comparison to spiders. I gave in to temptation and bought 2 species:
Mając pod opieką i ptaszniki, i true spiders, od jakiegoś czasu kusiły mnie też skorpiony. Jednakże zdając sobie sprawę z tego jak bardzo potrafią być niebezpieczne (bywają bardziej jadowite od najjadowitszych ptaszników) starałam się nimi nie interesować. Jednak moje serce podbiły miniaturowe skorpiony. Te z kolei są mniej groźne od najmniej jadowitych ptaszników. Ich dodatkową zaletą jest to, że są to stworzenia żyjące w grupach, jest więc okazja do zaobserwowania ciekawych zjawisk, których nie mam okazji zobaczyć u pająków. Uległam pokusie i kupiłam ostatnio dwa gatunki:


4 Euscorpius carpathicus

2 Liocheles australasiae

Both species are ultrasmall (L. australasiae is a bit bigger). Despite being a few milimeters long, they deal with food quite okay. I hope to see them hunting together soon ;)

Oba gatunki są ultamalutkie (L. australasiae jest trochę większy). Choć mają zaledwie kilka milimetrów, całkiem nieźle radzą sobie z jedzeniem. Wkrótce pewnie zobaczę wreszcie wspólne polowania ;)
